Solved Cannot record live input from vst instrument

Studio one 7.2
In my old DAW (Cakewlk) i could load a VSTi and route the output to the input of an
AUX channel and record the output...Without having to record midi first
I know that studio one aux channels do not have the ability to record
so i have followed the instructions in this video

and it all makes sense except i cannot record live input.. there is level on my record track
and the routing is all correct..i can only record the output once i have created a midi recording .
I am wondering is this a S1 7.2 glitch...
Also to further perplex me ..the record button and from my chosen input track will not appear
if I use anything other than Kontakt..if i load up Presence the record button and input monitor button (on the RECORDING track)
will not be available...
I wonder if anyone can be bothered trying the above to see if you can get it to work.
Thanks

I'd love to know if there's a way to do this too - I used to do it in Ardour but I've never worked out if its possible in Studio One (6 or 7)

This is working OK for me. If you have set this up as per the YTube instructions it should work.
The record/monitor buttons not showing up sounds a little odd ? Is that an Audio track you are talking about?
Those buttons can disappear if you are veiwing automation lanes, try tapping the "a" key on your comuter keyboard.
If that doesn't sort it out is this on a Mac or a PC ?

You may need to unpack a little more information for folk to assist you to get this doing what you want.

Kind regards

yep sorry PC
Yes input track is an ordinary audio track(exactly like the video) as all other forms of channels (FX /AUX/ BUS )
do not have the ability to record (afaik).
Not viewing auto lanes
.
weird
PS sintil8 are you running 7.2?
Also this is only a problem for me if i want to record the VSTi live as im playing to capture a live feel
if i record midi and the bounce etc it works fine

FOUND IT!!
its got to do with the relationship between the device block size and the processing block size
from my examination it seems if i have my interface RME UFX block size equal to or lower than processing block size
(manipulated with the drop out protection setting)
it all works as it should..it somehow is also dependent on the " enable low latency monitoring for instruments " setting
but its getting too complicated for me..BUT ive got it working.

Hallelujah... now if only i could get sound on sound recording

@bassface
If you have got it working that's great, have fun.

Regards

You're right! I realized I had dropout protection on maximum - it works on medium or lower. I don't even know what my device block size is..!
