Blue Screen Reset Errors

Would anybody know why I'm getting occasional Blue Screen errors and my PC has to reset? I can't get a screenshot because it's only up for 15 seconds and that's not enough time for me to set things up for a screen shot, but the one that came up the other day said something about "Watchdog" error and yesterday it was something else. This happens mostly when I'm recording vocals or bass (Trilian). I've already submitted a support ticket to MOTU because it's my understanding that most of these Blue Screen errors are due to bad drivers (which according to their website, are up to date. All of my security programs are OFF when I'm recording. I'm glad S1 has an auto backup. This feature has saved a few of my projects already. Thanks for any ideas.

Is this what you are experiencing. Link below.

It might also give you some information as to what could be the issue.

A true "Blue Screen" in Windows is 100% hardware related at all times.

Applications (by themselves) cannot create blue screens. Drivers are 98% responsible. The other 2% are possible with a failing memory module or some other obscure internal issue with a motherboard etc.

Firstly - ensure that the following are enabled:

This way - the memory.dmp file can be audited with several tools and it will usually expose the culprit.

Another critical troubleshooter is - if this condition just started (where it had never occurred before) - something has recently changed - most likely a driver has been updated to one that is flaky.

This is another critical reason to ensure that Windows has NO access to drivers (via Windows Update) and if/when any driver does require an update - you preside over it manually.

Drivers (that are known to be good) should always be coveted 100% of the time. Rarely does an actual driver update result in anything "better" or tangible in the way of noticeable improvements.

If your blue screens are random, it would be worth checking to ensure that all your memory DIMMs are properly seated in their slots. Take them out and reseat them as it may save you a lot of time and money if it's found to solve your BSODs. This was the cause of my problems as a desktop PC user with an old I7 920 desktop.

Thanks for the tips. Maybe I should just get a new computer. The thing is 3 years old and a Dell. It makes me so mad that computer crap is so cheaply made today.
I ran an sfc/scannow at the command prompt yesterday and today I had a fairly long vocal session which didn't yield any errors for a change. The test said it found several hard drive errors and fixed them. Maybe that fixed the problem but probably not. I'll just let the stupid thing burn itself out. I'm so tired of this crap! I've just about reached the end of my rope with when I'm trying to create something and I have to spend more time dealing with technical issues. My sessions frequently involve more time dealing with software or hardware issues that actually creating music. I've just about had enough!

VP-Your Windows 10 graphics aren't the same as mine for some reason. Is there a different way to view an access what you're showing?

Just right click on the "This PC" icon on your desktop and choose Properties - then...

Should be the same as mine.

Hi JBMusic, That's why if need be, I refer to VP or SwitchBack for PC related issues. Haven't had to yet, but you can bank off of them. As to screen shots, you can always nail the image with your cell phone. I'm just used to that methodology from work (a lot). Works great.

You could check your hardware connections quite literally from ribbon cable connections, and generally securing things before you opt to buy a whole new PC. Intermittent connections can and do happen from even subtle movements from your tower/case.

Having a computer for 3 years isn't a long time, if the components are well chosen. However, loading the computer up with non related DAW/music/task prioritized apps and software is another thing. That's up to each persons needs. I get a good six to eight years on a dedicated computer for music, video, and graphics. NOTHING else is added including unnecessary web surfing. That's simply a decision based on priorities. Everyone's priorities are different, but this works for me and seems prevalent among studios, and related usage.

Hope it works out for you. If necessary, Black Friday is around the bend. Just sayin' ; )

I checked my advanced system settings and everything is checked like VP told me should be checked.

What now? Where is the dump file and what are some of the programs I can use to check what's going on?

My desktop PC is 14 years old and still happily running today, although it has been upgraded over the years. I would suggest remooving everything from the PC that's attached to it apart from the monitor. Leave it for 30 minutes to see what it does without you touching it. If all is good then you can try and run some diagnostic tests. From here you need to do some reading up on what is available and suggested and also use some monitoring software to check for temps. https://www.xda-developers.com/top-8-programs-to-stress-test-and-benchmark-your-pc/
Basically you want to rule out the components of your PC being bad. As an alternative to Windows, try and run a version of Linux so you can check how stable the computer is using that. Change your peripherals such as the mouse you are using too. Use a different audio interface and drivers if you can.
