Behringer UMX610 controls don't work

Hi everyone, I'm Emanuele from Italy,

I'm new to this forum and thanks for creating it, it's very nice.

For many months I have tried to ask a question on the old forum but I have only received 2 answers without solving a problem that in my opinion is basic.

I just joined Studio One, about 3 months and for my midi use it's great I love it,
but I'm having problems with my Behringer UMX610 keyboard which is on the "External devices list" on Studio One, The notes work but the controls don't work (not even the pitch and mod wheels)

Now, in the control setup everything is correct, both the midi channels and the selection of controls and Aftertouch, and also the inputs and outputs,

I tried to configure it both as "UMX Series" and also as New Keyboard but in both cases all the controls do not work, when I choose a new keyboard the "midi learn" doesn't work but by checking in the "midi activity at the bottom left" everything seems ok, moving both the controls and the wheels seems to receive all the signals correctly with the right midi CC,

can you help me? thank you all
Emanuele (Google Translator)

I don't have a Behringer UMX610 keyboard but I do see the generic "UMX Series" listed (see attachment) in External Devices.

You can check the xml file with a text editor to see how complete the device file is for the UMX610.

Have you checked with Behringer to see if they have a specific device file for Studio One?

Can you post screenshots of the settings you've tried so far?

Hi Trucky, thanks for your help
these are the screens, as you can see it receives the midi information correctly, so I don't understand why when I configure it as a new keyboard it doesn't detect them with midi learn

I hadn't taken it into consideration since for me it's an S1 problem, but I'll try to open some tickets, even if the UMX series list is dated I shouldn't have any problems configuring it with a new keyboard, furthermore in the setup it appears written "set the B5 - B8 keys to CC 80-83, but even if I set these values on the keyboard nothing changes, thanks anyway, Emanuele

Depends.

The most basic method of getting any MIDI controller to work in Studio One (and to see if it works as expected) is to ignore all the presets for the manufacturer and exact models and just add it as a "Keyboard".

You should receive note and automation data on an instrument track when you press a key a turn a knob. Or you can check each control with the MIDI monitor.

Also: Check that you haven't added your MIDI controller twice in the External Devices window. An existing mapping might be the reason why certain parameters/MIDI CCs don't come through.

I once made a video about setting up MIDI controllers and external instruments. If you're not exactly sure which settings you need, check it out:

Hi Lukas ,
I think I've tried them all, but maybe I'm doing something wrong that I don't notice, I'll see the video, thanks
Emanuele

It would be great if PreSonus had a team devoted to creating device files for all the manufacturer's keyboards and controllers but there are far too many of them. It would be easier (and beneficial for customers) if the manufacturer provided them because there are far less DAWs compared to thousands of 3rd party devices. I have a Nectar Impact LX61+. Nectar provided device files that work great with Studio One. I wish other companies did this for their customers.

it's too strange that studio one is not updated on a 2015 Behringher product, the keyboard worked entirely with all DAWs, Digital Performer, Reason, Cakewalk and others, yesterday I tried to configure it as a "new generic device" and all the commands worked but the CCs were already preset with the MIDI protocol (sustain, portamento, etc.)

Did you check out the UMX xml file with a text editor yet?
That will show you what's defined and what's missing.
That's what I do when something isn't working with a device defined in Studio One.

I don't know what the file you mention is, where can I look for it?, in the meantime I attach the screenshot of the Behringher keyboard configured as a new instrument and not a keyboard, I turned and pressed all the controls and this is what Studio One receives, everything works but not the pitchbend which classifies it as CC0 Bank select MSB, quite a mess...
