Solved Basic question - how to paste on top rather than insert?

Very basic question. If I select and copy a selection from a recording, how do I paste it into another take by overwriting what is already there rather than it being inserted and shifting the destination track along?
I'm sure I used to do this easily in the past.
Any help appreciated!
 
It's OK, I worked it out. I had Ripple Edit switched on in the song I was working on. Switching that off resolved the issue.
